The Selma Area Food Bank was opened in October of 1993 with the hard work of a task force against hunger and the cooperation of the Montgomery Area Food Bank. What began as only a handful of agencies in the Selma area has grown to serve almost 50 nonprofit agencies and churches in a four county service area of Dallas, Perry, Wilcox and Marengo Counties. Every year, they distribute more than 1,000,000 pounds of food to needy families in our four county service area. The Food Bank is a bulk distributor and receives food from Walmart, Winn-Dixie, and other local stores.
How You Can Help:
AWARENESS: Help us spread the word about our services. We need to reach all agencies who help the needy.
FOOD DRIVE: Organize a food drive at your church, school or civic group. Challenge other groups to help us beat hunger.
FOOD DONATIONS: When you clean out your cupboards, donate usable food items. Every little bit helps.
FINANCIAL: Remember, every dollar you donate enables us to distribute over 20 pounds of nutritious food.
VOLUNTEER: Each month, The Selma Area Food Bank packs 276 brown bags for the elderly in Dallas County. We would also love your help folding quarterly Newsletters
