Familyhood Initiative (FHI) program was implemented in 2013 as the Fatherhood Initiative, which focused on non-custodial fathers from the court system. The Familyhood Initiative of today works closely with the other DCSOS programs to provide BOTH parents the skills and direction to secure employment and be able to provide a better home life for their children.
Specifically, this initiative provides:
Education:
*Adult basic education
*GED preperation
*Education on child support services and related legal issues
Assistance with employment:
*Job readiness training
*Specific job skills training
*Job placement assistance
*Post-employment support
Counseling services:
*Crisis intervention to meet needs for services
*Housing
*Substance abuse counseling
*Health services
*Legal counseling
*Domestic violence counseling
*Mediation services to help parents co-parent
*Early intervention to prevent non-payment of child support
Peer support groups and parenting workshops - to address topics the fathers are interested in including, personal development, life skills, and violence prevention
