Evidence2success

Evidence2Success is a collaborative community project between the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Dallas County District Court, Alabama Department of Youth Services, Selma City and County Schools and community agencies. That aim to have a dramatic impact on the Dallas County region that will enhance the safety, success and healthy development of our children and youth.

The focus of E2S is to:

  • Demonstrate that cities can improve young peoples well being at the community level.

  • Invest in evidence based programs

  • Form partnerships that engage elected officials, public agencies and the community

  • Improve child well being

  • Collect and analyze data to establish priorities based on kids strengths and needs

  • Select evidence based programs that focus on prevention and early intervention

  • Analyze the effectiveness of current investments to make informed decisions  








S.T.E.M. Program - After School and Summer Camps




STEM After school and Summer Learning Enhancement, in coordinated efforts with the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention “Children’s Trust Fund,”the Alabama Department of Human Resources, targeted local school systems and community partners.

Provide Stem Activities for approximately 600 students over the last year.

STEM involves Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic Activities

Provided a seven week summer camp experience focusing on STEM activities and after school programs this past school year.

Ages for groups from K-2nd grade and 3rd-5th, 6th-8th and 9th-12th

STEM materials and teaching staff provided free of charge

Virtual live sessions provided by AVI and Team Tall along with lesson plans and tutorials are provided to each participating site in support of the localized stand and facilitators.

Resources and materials aligned to the corresponding activities, dispersed to the sites and allocated to the individual programs.







Dallas County Gang Diversion Program

The Gang Diversion Program assist with identifying involved or youth susceptible to gang activity and provide prevention services.The program works with law enforcement to host joint trainings and information sessions for the community. DCGDP also offers conflict resolution training strategies and restorative justice techniques for school officials and community leaders.

This program helps student know the risk:

  • Once in a gang many students feel trapped and are unable to exit the gang

  • Students may be apprehensive to talk about the gang for fear of retaliation

  • Students may have several friends, family or other peers in a gang, and fear reporting friends and family to law enforcement


Strong African American Families

Elements:

  • 5 Weekly sessions for teens and caregivers

  • Program provides resources for teens and families designed to meet the unique needs of African American Families

  • Teens will learn how to avoid risky behaviors and learn how to have increased conversations with caregivers about their needs.

  • Caregivers will learn successful strategies to assist teens

Reported Participant Improvement:

  • 25% Improved increased talking to caregivers

  • 20% Improved Behavior

  • 100% Not Skipping School

SAAF has proven to reduce drug/alcohol use, gang violence and early/unsafe sex
