Alabama Network of Family Resource Centers: Making a Difference Across the State

Published June 2, 2026 · Community Bulletin

The Alabama Network of Family Resource Centers (ANFRC) is delivering real results for families across our state. Backed by strong, sustained investment from the Alabama Department of Human Resources, Family Resource Centers (FRCs) are meeting families where they are — providing holistic, community-based services that address workforce needs while building long-term stability and success.

Serving Alabama Families in a Big Way

In Fiscal Year 2025, the numbers speak for themselves:

  • 99,619 individuals were served by FRCs across the state of Alabama
  • 26 Family Resource Centers served families in 49 counties
  • 560,470 hours of services were provided to families statewide
  • 80% of FRC participants live at or below 200% of the federal poverty line
  • $51 million invested in family serving programs statewide

Workforce Development That Works

FRCs primarily serve individuals who are disengaged from the workforce — often for extended periods or generations — and face multiple barriers to employment. Through relationship-based services, concrete supports, and coordinated workforce programming, FRCs help participants build stability, reengage in education and training, and move toward sustained employment and self-sufficiency.

  • 8,052 individuals participated in workforce development services
  • 1,217 individuals who were previously not working secured employment
  • 191 participants earned a GED or high school equivalency
  • 515 participants earned industry-recognized vocational credentials
  • 482 underemployed participants achieved higher wages or transitioned to full-time employment
  • 25 Family Resource Centers provided workforce development services in 49 counties

Supporting Families Beyond the Workplace

The reach of FRCs goes well beyond workforce services. Centers also provided critical family support throughout the year:

  • 1,092 kinship families received services from FRCs in Alabama
  • 7,750 caregivers engaged with FRCs to strengthen parenting skills
  • 108 hours of training were provided to 211 FRC staff by the ANFRC team
  • 959 people are employed by FRCs across the state
  • 14 FRCs celebrated ANFRC membership recertification, serving 191 attendees

Growing the Network

The network continues to expand. 4 new Family Resource Centers joined the network this year, located in Dallas, Cleburne, and Jefferson counties — bringing trusted, local support even closer to the families who need it most.

Funding the Mission

FRCs are funded through a combination of sources braided together to maximize impact:

  • State Funds: $1,875,000
  • SNAP E&T Funds: $1,444,821
  • TANF Funds: $1,000,000
  • $4,319,821 in DHR-aligned workforce funds leveraged with additional resources for comprehensive programming
  • $4,816,326 received by FRCs due to ANFRC membership

These funds are braided with additional local, federal, and private resources that vary by center.

Consistent, Trusted Support Close to Home

Across Alabama, Family Resource Centers deliver the practical, day-to-day supports families rely on — from parenting help and crisis assistance to basic needs and connection to community resources. Sustained investment and shared standards across the network ensure families in every county can access consistent, trusted support close to home.
